Reitti v1.5.0 is Here: Get Ready for Live Sharing, Smarter Times, and More!

Hey Reitti users! We’re absolutely excited to share what we’ve been working on, and today marks a special milestone with the release of Reitti v1.5.0. This isn’t just another update, it’s a complete transformation of how you can share, view, and manage your location data.

Whether you’re coordinating with family, sharing adventures with friends, or simply want better control over your timeline, this release has something amazing for you. Let’s dive into what makes v1.5.0 so special!

Important: This release requires a manual change to your docker-compose.yml file due to an update in the underlying Photon geocoding service. Please take special care to review the changes in the default docker-compose.yml file before updating. More information is available in the “Photon Service Upgrade” section below and in the main README file.

The Big Four: What’s Got Us Most Excited

Remember when you could only see static location data from your connected friends and family? Those days are over! Now, when you’re connected to other Reitti instances (like your partner’s or family members’), you can watch their location updates happen live on your map.

Picture this: You’re planning to meet up with friends who also use Reitti, and instead of constantly texting “Where are you now?”, you can glance at your map and see exactly where everyone is in real-time. It’s like having a live, private Google Maps just for your trusted circle!

Quick note: Everyone in your network needs to be running v1.5.0 or later to enjoy this feature, so make sure to spread the word!

This is probably our favorite new feature (okay, we love them all, but this one’s pretty special). You can now create * magic links* that let anyone view your location data without needing their own Reitti account.

Head over to Settings > Share Access and you’ll find two fantastic sharing options:

Full Access Mode: Your friend gets the complete Reitti experience – maps, date picker, historical data, the works!
Live Mode Only: Perfect for “watch me run this marathon” or “follow my road trip today” scenarios. It automatically shows just today’s live data.

And here’s the best part: you control how long these links work. Set them to expire after your hiking trip, or keep them active for as long as you want. It’s sharing, but on your terms.

3. Timezone Magic: Finally, Time That Makes Sense!

If you’ve ever traveled and gotten confused about when something happened (was that photo taken at 3 PM local time or home time?), you’re going to love this upgrade.

Now you can:

Set your own preferred timezone, regardless of what your browser thinks
Switch between Default mode (your chosen timezone) and Geo Local mode (the actual timezone where events happened)
Just hover over any time in Reitti to see the alternative – no more mental math required!

For our globe-trotting users, this means your timeline finally tells the story the way it actually happened, with times that make sense for each location.

4. OIDC Gets Even Better: Streamlined and Flexible

For those running Reitti with OpenID Connect (think: logging in with your existing company or organization account), we’ve made things much smoother:

Automatic account creation: First-time OIDC users get accounts created automatically
Clean login experience: Option to hide the traditional username/password form if you’re going full OIDC
Better control: New environment variables give administrators exactly the flexibility they need

Other features and fixes

Enhanced Photo Viewing

Got HEIC photos from your iPhone stored in Immich? We’ve improved how these display in browsers that don’t natively support the format. Your memories will always show up beautifully, regardless of the technical details behind them.

Updated Photon Integration

We’ve upgraded our integration with Photon (the service that turns coordinates into readable place names) to version 1.0. This keeps your location lookups running smoothly and accurately.
